When Giants Roamed The Earth
{An Alternative to History}

We humans are nothing if not master fabricators of myths and manipulators of realities, all formulated primarily to justify our reasons for being and to rationalize our fears of those things over which we have little or no control. The imaginary vernacular photographs in this portfolio are presented in this spirit. Like all articles of faith, they are my own personal interpretations of events, constructed out of smoke and mirrors: ordinary found snapshots, reconstituted to convey a meaning all their own, appearing to be both real and implausible at the same time. And yet, even as we acknowledge that we are looking at figments without provenance or basis in fact, there is something about looking at them that engages us, triggering responses we can't ignore and inviting us to infuse them with purpose and meaning.
